REEL TALK: BA THI PHAM

Unraveling home and growing with Saigon-based photographer

Welcome to Reel Talk, where we deep-dive into the minds of the industry’s finest creatives, artists and filmmakers. Each conversation gives a glimpse into their craft, passion, and the stories that drive them.

This week, I’m welcoming Ba Thi Pham, an incredibly talented Vietnamese photographer whose artistry is deeply tied to the city he grew up in, Saigon. Much less about the film, his art interrogates at which point modernization becomes too fast, too relentless, and too negligent that it overshadows the longstanding, intergenerational family businesses, buildings, and sites historic sites that have been in the heart of our city for decades, and how Ba Thi, himself, grapples with that as a young person.
