For Real: Another Barbie Movie?

Seems like we're getting another barbenheimer summer.

Good days.

Before we dive in, I wanted to drop you a quick note about something exciting happening in our newsletter community.

This Friday, we're launching a special pay-per-click campaign in partnership with another astronomical newsletter!

So what about it?

Your support in engaging with the campaign this Friday will directly contribute to our newsletter’s growth and sustainability. You can help us in 3 easy steps:

Just smile while you’re at it :)

Stay tuned for more details coming this week, and:

Thank you for supporting me and my little dream of yapping for the rest of my life.

(told you I’m not that self-centred. I’m selectively communal).

Recent Transaction

  • Activist investor Nelson Petlz sold his entire Disney stake at roughly $120/share, netting $1 billion.

    • In April, his multi-billion management firm Trian Partners lost in the Disney proxy battle. And he’s salty af.

  • Mattel, the giant toy enterprise that makes Barbie, partners with Universal Pictures to develop a live-action film based on Monster High dolls.

    • Adapting toys to humans was successful in Barbie, but will Monster High be the same?

The casting better hits. I’m thinking Jenna Ortega.

  • Peachtree Group, a private equity firm, debuted its film financing division at Cannes after backing “The Surfer,” starring Nicholas Cage.

    • They finance movies ranging from $5-$10 million in production cost, and do real estate shenanigans as a side gig.

(just kidding because that’ll be wild).

Retail Therapy

Summer’s out. You deserve jail time if this song isn’t on your summer playlist.

In case you’ve been living under a rock, and only come out once a week to read this newsletter, here’s a short film by Kevin Jim Kwan Kim that’s gone astronomically viral on TikTok.

It will make you sob astronomically (if that’s an actual word). Because I did.

Kevin is a young Korean-Canadian filmmaker based in Vancouver, Canada. Some of his most significant works revolve around the immigrant experiences - the raw ones - that cut quite deep only a Pororo band aid can heal.

Is it just me or fetus Dory give you baby fever?

Alright, that’s it for today. Get yourself some freshly squeezed orange juice.
