Recent Transaction
Paramount Global’s filmed entertainment revenue increased by 3% to $605 million for Q1 of 2024 as outlined in recent financial results.
Forecasts call for a total revenue of $7.74 billion in Q4 of 2024, but analysts are still concerned with its stock volatility.
[Big yikes]
Pretty clear that Reneé Rap kinda carried in Paramount’s recent remake. Stills from “Mean Girls” (2024)
The British Film Institute to pour up to £2.7 million into their National Lottery Creative Challenge Fund to support decentralized film programs. Recent recipients include:
No Funny Business: a feature film program supporting 10 projects with disabled writers, producers and directors by 104 Films.
Develop-Create XR: a program supporting immersive XR world-building and narrative writing by Screen South.
Toronto Palestinian Film Festival
TPFF is back with their 17th Festival, accepting submissions by Palestinian filmmakers; and by non-Palestinian filmmakers with films related to Palestine.
The deadline of May 25th is just around the corner, so make sure to get your applications in via this form here.
Watch the trailer for Alam (2022), one of the most beautiful body of works to be featured in the TPFF’s 16th Annual Festival.
I Doubt I’ll Enjoy These Films
The Fall Guy | Universal Studios
I’m convinced this is an attempt to mend the Barbenheimer rival by featuring Ryan Gosling and Emily Blunt. Not fully bought by this one but let’s see what the critics have to say:
“The Fall Guy's final act is so convoluted that not even Gosling can keep it on the rails. When The Fall Guy falls, it falls hard.”
“It’s light, it’s airy, it’s preposterous and it is a lot of fun.”
“Unfunny.”
Challengers (2024) | MGM Studios
We already talked about Zendaya slaying every single red carpet last week. But what do people have to say about the movie?
Here’s a glimpse into these thoughts in no particular order, just real funny:
“No one is free from temptation, viewer included.”
“Stylized and aggressive direction […] within an irresistible cinematographic spell.”
“Confused as hell. But slayed either way”
Long-story short, we stan depictions of complex female characters.
Retail Therapy
Another day, another bless from Kendrick Lamar with his latest single “euphoria.”
Case. Freaking. Closed.
That’s all for today.
Don’t forget to fill in this feedback form and share your your most blunt, intrusive thoughts. Free-of-judgement zone here.
Alrighty, stay safe and get that vitamin D.
